One of the advantages of higher education in Russia is that one can start studying at a university not knowing the Russian language. Before commencing a Bachelor or Master programme, one can invest a year in a foundation course at a preparatory department for foreigners. An intensive programme of the Russian language, (usually, 4-6 hours per day) a foundation year entails can equip you for further studies in Russian.
For five years, Sholom-Aleichem Priamursky State University, according to the competitive admission undergone, has got an opportunity to teach foreign citizens and stateless persons at the Preparatory Department that provide with additional general education programs. They prepare for the development of professional educational programs in Russian by the federal funding.
In the 2019-2020 academic year, students from Vietnam, Iraq and Zambia joined a friendly family of Sholom-Aleichem Priamursky State University. That year was difficult for international students for many reasons: firstly, they were far away from their homelands and families, secondly, they had to adapt to the severe Russian Far-East climate, and thirdly, they learnt Russian in new living conditions for them, including coronavirus epidemic time. Nevertheless, they succeeded in completing their course, and all of them became new family members of the university.
After completion of Preparatory Department studies, the international students entered the Master degree programs at Russian universities: foreign citizens from Vietnam entered the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok; Alalvan Khusamuldin Kasim Musa from Iraq continued his studies at Samara National Research University, Chilongu Innocent from Zambia is studying at Voronezh State University.
This academic year, foreign citizens from Syria, Vietnam and China have chosen Sholom-Aleichem Priamursky State University to study in. All students have successfully started studying using distance learning technologies. They have been learning not only the Russian language and culture, but they also do Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and IT. International applicants study Russian and field-specific subjects in order to be able to enrol in majors.
